just a stab

Yesterday, Dubya issued a statement that included this quote: "Marriage cannot be severed from its cultural, religious and natural roots without weakening the good influence of society."

Firstly, like many statements from our president's mangling mouth, it is not very clear. Marriage's good influence on society? Or societies good influence on marriage? I'm assuming he meant the latter.

And I'll give him the idea that same sex marriage severs the traditional idea of marriage in the eyes of the church and in many of the uncultured areas of our country, but natural roots?

firstly, i don't know anything about the history of marriage, but i assume that marriage isn't natural to begin with. why do people cheat? probably because the idea of having one mate for a lifetime is an imposed idea. both of my parents married twice. many of yours probably have as well.

but what i really thing bush is saying is that homosexuality is unnatural. which i just don't agree with either. there have been studies about homosexuality in the animal kingdom and it is alive and well (you can read about it here and here and here). does a gay kangaroo make a conscious choice that he doesn't want to be straight any longer and starts hooking up with other dude kangaroos. and why would a human choose to be gay. i don't really see any advantages. you can't be legally married yet, so you get screwed with taxes and health care. there's that whole "coming out" business which can't be enjoyable. to me, it only makes sense that it's a natural predisposition and there isn't any choice in the matter.

I really don't understand how any homosexual can vote for bush when he considers them unnatural.

I read this article yesterday and have been thinking about it since. There are a few things that I find interesting about it:

  1. Because it's a pentagon report, it doesn’t address curtailing climate change, it discusses how to defend ourselves when it’s most devastating changes start to effect humans.

  2. Despite the fact that it is a “secret report,” this is old news to many who pay attention to climate change. It’s odd that just now the pentagon picked up on it and made it an issue.

  3. I can’t wait to see what Bush does, if anything at all, with this report. As my friend said, “if i were a retard like bush i would say ‘there is no way to slow down these effects so we shouldn't waste money on trying. we should spend the money making sure we are the last country standing"

Good Stuff.
